A Prof Alex Ades is a specialist Obstetrician and Melbourne Gynaecologist accredited by the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologist (RANZCOG), the Health Insurance Commission and the Medical Board of Australia.

 Dr Ades is an extensively trained and experienced minimally invasive surgeon and has been involved in public and private practice as well as academic tertiary education for more than 20 years. His formal qualifications include a Master and a PhD in Medicine.

He has many research studies published in international peer reviewed scientific journals.

Dr Ades is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Melbourne - Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences.

He works at the Royal Women’s Hospital where he is the head of the Ambulatory Gynaecology Services unit as well as one of the endometriosis and advanced laparoscopic surgeons. He participates in the theoretical and practical training of future specialists.

Some of his other educational initiatives include being the organiser and director for:- AGORA-CCMIG Advanced Gynaecological Laparoscopy Course

- 2 year AGES accredited fellowship for subspecialisation in minimally invasive gynaecological surgery. 

- Contemporary Gynaecology for General Practitioners

- Long active reversal contraception, Intra-uterine device insertion for General Practitioners.

Dr Ades is a board member of the International Society for Gynaecologic Endoscopy.

 

 Dr Ades main expertise is Gynaecologic Surgery and especially Minimally Invasive Procedures. He has a special interest in the surgical treatment of conditions such as endometriosis, uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, genital prolapse and urinary incontinence among others. Having evolved from traditional open surgery to laparoscopic (keyhole) and most recently robotic surgery, Dr Ades is constantly training and upskilling to ensure his patients receive the latest state of the art medical resources. The use of minimally invasive techniques has reduced the surgical trauma and markedly improved patient recovery allowing for a much prompter return to their day-to-day activities.

Dr Ades is an expert on the treatment of cervical incompetence and is one of the most experienced surgeons in Australia and internationally on Laparoscopic Transabdominal Cerclage.

Dr Ades is the founder of the AGORA Specialist Centre as well as AGORA Medical Education .

Dr Ades admits his private patients to Frances Perry House and Epworth Richmond hospitals.
