GP Area

Welcome to the GP area

This section was created to assist and to provide support to GPs who have an interest in Women's Health.

We believe that women benefit from health care that is high quality, reasonably priced and easy to access, at the same that it is personalised because it is centred at the family doctor's practice.

Advanced Gynaecology Melbourne promotes this type of care through a combination of complementary services.

Open access outpatient procedures

The service allows GPs to refer patients directly for small procedures without the need for a prior appointment with the specialist, much in the way that patients are referred for gastroscopies and colonoscopies.

These procedures include: insertion of IUDs for contraception or for control of heavy periods, diagnostic hysteroscopy for post-menopausal bleeding, removal of cervical or endometrial polyps and permanent contraception through hysteroscopic sterilization (Essure procedure).

Please see the training requirements under Education and current referral packs under Ambulatory Gynaecology.

Continuous Medical Education

The Ambulatory Procedural Gynaecology Course is designed to update GPs knowledge in Women's health.

Upon completion of the day long course GPs:

- Reduce the number of referrals by increasing the number of patients they can manage themselves.

- Learn how to refer patients directly for outpatient procedures.

The course is accredited by the RACGP for 40 QI&CPD Category 1 40 points in Women's Health.

Urgent Gynaecology referrals

The main focus of the practice is Complex Gynaecological Surgery . We are usually able to accommodate Gynaecology referrals within a few weeks.

For urgent referrals such as ectopic pregnancies, you are welcome to pick up the phone and call the rooms directly. We are happy to try to accommodate yours or your patient's urgency.

Please note that we are only able to provide urgent admission to patients who have private health insurance and are happy to be admitted into a private hospital. If that is not the case, they are better off presenting to the Emergency Department of a public hospital.

Email and phone support

If you don't want to refer a patient but would like some advice to help you manage the patient yourself, Dr Ades is happy to answer an email (24-48 hour turnaround time) or a phone call.

Please feel free to contact us using any of the available options: fill in the website enquiry form, send an email, phone or fax.
